About the department

The Department of  Human and Social Sciences (DHSS)  has been functioning since the academic year 2016/17, unifying the teaching staff and degree programs of the formerly existing departments of Social Science, Philosohy and Cultural Studies and Theology.
The DHSS, as an academic unit within the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences offers three Bachelor degree programs (BA) and one Masters Degree program (MA):

  • Pedagogy of preschool and primary education (BA)
  • Social Work (BA)
  • Sociology (BA)
  • European Social Policies (MA)

The department's core teaching staff consists of highly qualified lecturers and researchers, possessing PhD titles, who are recognized and respected members both within the academic community and the local society. Five of the fourteen full-time employed  colleagues are full professors, three are associate professors, some of them are currently also scientific advisors within doctoral programs in Romania and in Hungary.

In addition to the education activity, the DHSS also carries out major research activities, as members of the department have been involved in several international and domestic research projects for several years. Members of the faculty from the field of social sciences are currently conducting several applied research programs in cooperation with the Center for Talent Management and Career Counseling. The Department's educational methodology projects are also of major importance, especially in the field of pedagogy of preschool and primary education.

The department's head since February 2019 is Levente Székedi, PhD, assistant professor, he is supported and assisted in the frame of the Department Council by Rita Pásztor, PhD, assistant professor, deputy head of department, and Katalin Gál, PhD, assistant professor, the scientific secretary of the department.
